Who May Join 4-H

Primary: Must be 5 years old or in kindergarten as of December 31st of the Program year*. The only approved animal projects for primary Members in the Ventura County 4-H Program are dogs, rabbits, cats, poultry, cavies, mice, embryology, pocket pets, entomology, marine science, and therapeutic animal projects.

Junior, Intermediate, and Senior: Must be 9 years old or in 4th grade by December 31st of the Program year*.

For Home Schooled Children, the age criteria only will apply.

Members can continue in 4-H through the end of the calendar year in which they turn 19.

Special needs participants who are older than 19 may be enrolled in 4-H programs with the approval of the county program staff.

* As of 6/30/08 the 4-H program year is July 1 - June 30..

Youth Enrollment Information

The Ventura County 4-H Program runs July 1st through June 31st of each year. To participate in 4-H club program activities, youth must complete the required enrollment forms and have the individual enrollment recorded by the county office. Enrollment forms and information can be obtained from the club leaders.

Adult Registration Information

To participate as an Adult Volunteer Leader, contact the club leader to obtain registration materials which must be completed each year. New volunteers must complete a certification program which includes attending a training meeting and being fingerprinted.
